(Information about Establishing an Internet Presence)

Read this carefully if you want to be aware of what is needed to have a web site.

What is needed to establish a Web Site:

• Domain Name - establishes personalization.

• Site Hosting - home server for the web site files.

• Web Site - pages and graphics that are the web site.

• Maintenance - changes and updates after web site is created.

I. - Domain Name

A domain name is www.yourname.com. Domain names are purchased from Network Solutions (http://www.netsol.com ) for a cost of $35. per year *. Domain names are not needed if you plan on being hosted within another site (such as www.willsworlds.com) or on some of the free web space offered on the web. (geocities, tripod, angelfire, etc..)

(There are no restrictions on using .com, .net, or .org - anyone can register them)

II. - Web Site Hosting

After you decide to put together a web site, you'll need somewhere to host it. Hosting is taking the files that make up the web site, and placing them on a computer where they can be viewed by the Internet community. The cost for web hosting can be a monthly, bi-monthly, or yearly cost depending on the company you are hosting with. There are some sites on the web that will give you free space to host your pages, but then you have to put up with those annoying pop-up adds and email isn't always configured for your use.

III. - Web Site Design

This is the process of creating the actual pages that will be displayed on the Internet. Since every customer is different, a representative will need to work with you on your needs and specifications for your particular web site. Prices vary by the complexity of the site.

IV. - Web Site Maintenance

After the web site has been developed and placed on a server for the whole World Wide Web to see, there are costs associated with changing and updating the pages. This fee can be worked out with the Webmaster of the site.
